The mind does like to wander, doesn't it?

The mind does like to wander doesn’t it? If you’re not careful it will take you all over the place, down dark avenues, into haunted basements, along a cliff edge, round and round a merry-go-round...
Here’s the thing, the mind really does have an endless scope of pathways it can take, so if you’re not in charge of it you can easily end up in places you don’t really want to be. That’s because the mind is a powerful tool - wherever it is focused, energy flows and grows. It tends to steer the show. But if you pay attention, you will notice that these thoughts come and go in YOU. Something deeper and more intrinsic than the thoughts themselves.
Thoughts are impermanent- they have no true substance (even though they influence your experience). But YOU are ever present. ‘You’ are the consciousness behind the thoughts. And when you connect with this it’s like a brilliant light is switched on - a light of awareness. The light of the witness. It is this light in you that has true power, wisdom and knowing. Once you occupy this, and harness this power, you are in a position of choice: you can either watch your thoughts or follow your thoughts.
This means you become acutely aware of the nature of each thought, and whether it serves you, if it will lead you along a desirable track or one you don’t want to travel. This is why witnessing meditation is so liberating - it is transformative, empowering, illuminating.
It is as easy as taking a few deep breaths and paying attention to what’s happening in your mind.
The more you practice, the more established in the witness you will become.
So breathe deeply and be ever watchful.
