This is a tragedy. The Amazon rainforest is burning at an unprecedented rate, and is directly related to deforestation. The fires are lit to clear land for cattle ranching - responsible for as much as 80% of the ongoing deforestation.

FACTS: the Amazon is the world’s largest tropical rainforest - about half the size of the U.S. and responsible for more than 20% of the worlds oxygen - this is our planet's living lungs!

In the last 50 yrs, a total area larger than the state of Texas has been lost to deforestation. As loggers, ranchers, and miners continue to encroach on the ecosystem, the loss is accelerating: Last month, it peaked at a rate of more than three football fields a minute.

Tropical rainforests are critical storage sites for carbon dioxide. Protecting the Amazon is critical to preventing runaway climate change. It is also the earth's most biodiverse place... an irreplaceable ancient ecosystem of life - a jade heaven for millions of life forms... animals, insects, birds, enormous and minuscule flora, fauna of wonder, and more than 400 native tribes - all living interdependently. And WE are not separate from this. Our lives, our futures, are dependent on this great forest.

To say we are pathologically destructive to our planet is an understatement. We are wantonly destroying our very own life source for the sake of our greed. How we can be so irreverent to earth is beyond belief. We are facing much more than climate change - we are facing the crisis of life on earth - a terminal illness, of which we are the cause. The question is: will we heed the cry, will we acknowledge the disease? Will we heal? Or will we risk the lives of all on earth, including our own?

We can no longer afford to be grossly irresponsible with our environment. It is up to us to demand our governments take appropriate action.

We must stand together for the love of all life.

We must be a voice for the forests, the creatures, the innocents whose cries are not heard in human chambers.

We must demand the change we need - not tomorrow- but now.

We must awaken the hearts and minds of all people.

Let us be the great awakening!

What are we to do? Some people say we must pray to God. Pray if you like, but we are the only ones who can help ourselves. It is not a mind that holds fear and need that will answer our prayers. Likewise it is not a mind that ignores the gravity of our situation. It is a mind of conscious awareness. It is a mind of LOVE, determination and clear vision. It is a mind of will. It is one of INTENTION, focus and action. It is one that BELIEVES in the sanctity, the value of all life. It is a mind that knows the absolute connectedness of all, that we are interdependent, that our life depends on the well-being of the planet as a whole. It is with a mind that says: NO MORE. I AM the change

Namaste.

One Life, One Love.
